CULLOWHEE

Home to Western Carolina University, Cullowhee has endless options for outdoor recreation along the river, greenway, and countless single-track bike adventures.

Outdoors

• Visit Judaculla Rock (below), which features petroglyphs etched into the surface by Native Americans thousands of years ago. • Explore Western Carolina University’s 6.8-mile single-track mountain bike/hiking trail system. • Whitewater rafting options range from scenic Class I to heart-pumping Class IV rapids. A number of local companies rent rafts, canoes, kayaks, and tubes in the summer months, so choose a solo or guided trip with a local rafting expert. • Dive into the Blue Ridge Snorkel Trail at East LaPorte River Park. This unique, free underwater trail in western North Carolina’s rivers offers a glimpse into diverse aquatic life. Equipped with informative signs, the trail is accessible beginning early June. Bring your snorkel and mask for an unforgettable adventure in nature’s underwater world.
